Harry & Meghan public opinion
Hi Nicole, thanks for taking the time to speak with us..
Tell us who you are, and what you do?
I am a 43 year old practice manager of a GP surgery. I live in Liverpool and greatly enjoy shoe shopping and cats.
Are you a fan of the Royal Family?
I wouldn’t say am an uber fan where I would hold a street party for a total wedding say. But that said I appreciate the work they do and I find the history of their existence fascinating.
What are your opinions on Megxit?
I think it’s fair enough. I think Megan has had a tough ride from the outset. I don’t blame him for wanting to lead a normal(ish) life, he is becoming more and more removed from his lineage to the throne and I feel in some way he is doing the crown a favour, although I don’t think that was high up on his agenda for wanting to take a step back.
Do you believe that there are any signs that things may not be what they seem with Harry & Meghan?
Only they can truly say whether things are all rosy or not. I stopped reading the gutter press some years ago and so I can only go off what you see for myself. I know she’s a strong independent woman but I don’t personally believe she is as strong a force as she is made out to be.
Do you think they will still be together in 5 years time?
I do yes.
What’s your opinion of Prince Harry?
I like him. I think he has shown his true colours when he fought in Afghanistan and the press were banned from reporting on it, he didn’t just go into it for the token medals (I’m looking at you Prince Andrew) I think, like them all, this is a role he was born into and he projects a nice character and demeanour. He courts the press well, and I think he just does the right amount of charity events.
What’s your opinion of Meghan Markle?
Initially I liked her. I think they were able to “court” in relative quiet before the press got onto them. I did think she was a bit OTT in the engagement announcement and I think this is where she lost a lot of fans. The British public like a demure princess. Kate barely spoke at her engagement announcement much like Diana – and like most things, the British public Do. Not. Like. Change. And Ms Markle is most definitely a change. But I think in my heart of hearts she’s had to massively adjust to become part of the British monarchy and she has not been welcomed nor accepted so I don’t blame her for wanting out. I genuinely don’t think she can reverse the public perception of her and so she may as well do as she pleases. She defo has a whiff of the Anne Bolyens about her, bit of a rebel.
Do you think that Meghan is genuine, or has a hidden agenda?
Hard to tell. She’s an actress at the end of the day and can play a part very well. But I do think she is genuinely in love with Harry and wants to be accepted. She perhaps has exploited her position in order to further herself with this new move but I doubt she would go through all of this heartache and mither just to get a few roles on Broadway. I think they have seen a way out and have grabbed it. It will be interesting to see how these next few months pan out.
