Harry & Meghan views from Elisha Hickey, Surf School Instructor, Strandhill, Co Sligo, Ireland
Interview for Elisha Hickey, Surf School Instructor, Strandhill, Co Sligo, Ireland
Hi Elisha, thanks for taking the time to speak with us.
Tell us who you are, and what you do…..
Hi, My name is Elisha and I’m from a lovely little surf village called Strandhill, in County Sligo on the North West Coast, in Ireland. I’m a surf instructor, Marine Biologist and also have an MA in education, currently working as a primary school teacher in a local school. My family own ‘Perfect Day Surf & SUP School’, Sligo’s very first and also, one of Ireland’s very first surf schools, established 22yrs ago in 1998.
Are you a fan of the Royal Family?
Being totally honest, I’m not too knowledgable when it comes to the royal family but I do find them very interesting! I wouldn’t necessarily say I’m a ‘fan’ but I do like William, Kate, Harry and Meghan.
Harry and Meghan even more so since ‘Meghxit’.
I think fair-play to them! I can’t imagine it was easy to take that step and to follow their hearts but I admire their courage.
What are your opinions on Meghxit?
I’ve heard people and the media questioning the authenticity of their relationship and already casting doubts on whether or not it is to last or not. Why wouldn’t they? Because they ( M&H) do not wish for the life Harry was born into? Not knowing too much, Harry always appeared to be the ‘wild one’. More so about enjoying life as he wanted opposed to what was expected of him, as a prince. He did not choose to be a prince, and for him to now, make the choice to live a ‘normal’ life with his wife and child, that’s a big move and In my opinion, it only shows how serious they really are about each other. The easy way out would have been to remain as senior members of the royal family, put on a brave face and accept their duties.
Do you believe that there are any signs that things may not be what they seem with Harry & Meghan?
The media is a funny thing, depending on the journalist it can be pro or anti-Harry & Meghan, which then of course influences the readers opinions. Rumours that Kate and Meghan do not like each other, that the brothers were no longer speaking, all sorts…whose to really know unless you hear first hand?
What’s your opinion on Prince Harry?
When the news first broke about ‘Meghixt’, the finger was pointed at Meghan, like she made Harry do this. Harry is a grown man and Meghan and Harry, together decided on what is best, in their opinions, as parents for their family. Who are we to judge?
What’s your opinion on Meghan Markle?
I personally think Meghan is great! A strong, independent, opinionated woman who is a great role model to all young girls who idolise princesses and all share the dream of being a princess. Meghan has shown them that you can be a princess yet not lose your identity!
At the end of the day, It is their life, as long as they are happy that’s all that matters.
I say, ‘bualadh bos’ and the best of luck to them!
